On August 25, Beijing TC Program Excellence community invited Mrs. Xu Jiang Lin from Avtech Institute of Technology Company to give a session with theme of "How to Improve Interpersonal Skills in common Project Management Scenarios “at Beijing A107 Meeting Room. More than 70 colleagues in Beijing participate in the training, including ~40 PMP and project/program managers. Mrs. Xu Jiang Lin started straight the point of the soft skill in Project Management, firstly with what is soft skills, why need soft skills in Project Management, she tells, “it is very important for project managers to deal with project stakeholder management with appropriate interpersonal skills in project management”. These stakeholders may be customers, leaders in senior levels, colleagues in different cross-functions, sub-contractors, external experts, team members, etc. In the project environment, project managers need identify, manage stakeholders, and invite stakeholders to participate in project work, or provide support to the project. Good interpersonal skills are essential.
Then Mrs. Xu extended the topic of how to establish a good, healthy and lasting interpersonal skills from four contents: what is the success of communication, who need to be communicated, emotional intelligence model and to build good relationship. For each contents, Mrs. Xu not only explained the general theory, such as the communication of the four quadrant, crab theory, Right-Interest Matrix, Baron EQ-360 test model, Dr. Daniel Goleman’s ECI360 EQ evaluation method, DISC behavior style, Maslow’s famous 5 Hierarchy of need model, Martin Seligman’s flourish life definition, but also give R&D common daily project stories. The Intergradation of the different theories from management, leadership and personality with practical stories extended attendee’s view of how to assert own self, listen to others and resolve conflicts with others.
Continuously, Mrs. Xu focus on sharing three common project scenarios: how to invite collaboration from cross-functions; how to cooperate with members “who don't listen to your words"; how to obtain further support from senior management. In each common project scenario, Mrs. Xu would ask attendee to discuss and practice first, then summed up the best practice, and gave the interpersonal skill improvement step suggestion.
During the whole training process, there is often understanding laughers with Mrs. Xu’s humorous joke and practical involvement in common project scenarios practice.
